I have accidently screwed up an old computer, and now I can’t get it to boot. It’s an old P-III 500 mHz machine, and it has a BIOS that lets you adjust the timing, CPU speed, etc. I selected Defaults to go back to the original configuration, and it will no longer boot. I can’t seem to find the manual for the motherboard, either. I will have to keep looking, as I use this machine to download podcasts.
This happened because I wanted to install Ubuntu Linux on the machine, but it won’t boot from the CDROM. I tried everything I could think of to boot from that, including a new boot sector called Smart Boot Manager. Turns out it isn’t so smart.
