I updated the Mepis Linux software I have on my notebook computer on Wednesday, but never rebooted it until yesterday. Imagine my surprise when it hung up in the initialization. I had to reload the O/S, since I couldn’t track down the culprit. It had to be non-talking hardware, since that’s about the only thing that will cause Linux to hang.
So I loaded it up and did the update again, and now my WiFi refuses to work. It works fine when I boot into Windows, so I know it isn’t a hardware problem. I will have to try one more time, and this time will refrain from updating.
A third alternative is to download the newly-released openSUSE 10.2 and try it. Maybe they’ve started supporting my WiFi. It’s possible, since the latest Mepis supports it.
